ATL Board Approves Gwinnett County Amendment to 2019 ATL Regional Transit Plan

Resolution authorizing submission of FTA grant application for trip planning app also approved

ATLANTA – At its Specially Called Board Meeting today, the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) Board of Directors approved an amendment to the ATL Regional Transit Plan (ARTP) proposed by Gwinnett County. The move increases the number of transit projects submitted by Gwinnett County for the ARTP from 62 to 99 and increases the total value of projects contained within the ARTP from $27.4 billion to $31.4 billion.

“The ATL Board’s adoption of this amendment continues to advance the conversation around transit in the Atlanta region, by affording Gwinnett County the opportunity to evaluate all of its options moving forward,” said Chris Tomlinson, ATL Executive Director. “The ATL is pleased to work with Gwinnett, and all of our regional partners, on how we can best position transit to meet the mobility needs of the region.”

Any transit project included in a county transit referendum is required to be part of the ARTP, according to the 2018 law creating the ATL. Gwinnett County continues to deliberate regarding its options for a possible referendum.

The Board also approved a resolution authorizing the ATL to submit a grant with the Federal Transit Administration to obligate the funding received through a federal grant award on March 16th. The project will support development of a multi-modal trip planning application that offers live navigation and in-app fare payment options across multiple transit providers. ATL along with several regional partners including MARTA, ARC, GCT, CobbLinc, Xpress, Connect Douglas, CATS, and Henry County Transit are participating in the project.

In addition, the Board approved a resolution amending the Bylaws to create the Xpress Operations Standing Committee. This committee will provide Board level oversight of the policies, operations and functions of the state’s regional express commuter bus service known as Xpress and the state’s regional Vanpool program.
