Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority Holds Election to Fill District 8 Board Vacancy
Election will be held at the State Capitol, Room 341, Wednesday, March 16, 2022

ATLANTA – The Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) will hold a special District 8 Board Member election. This election fills the vacancy left by former City of Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who resigned from the ATL Board effective January 28, 2022.

WHAT: District 8 Board Member will be elected by 32 electors including Chattahoochee Hills Mayor Tom Reed (Mayoral Caucus Representative), along with the Mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, the County Commission Chairs from Cobb, Douglas, and Fulton Counties, and state representatives and senators whose districts overlap with ATL District 8. The individual elected on March 16th will fill the remainder of the current term, until April 15, 2023.

District 8 includes parts of Cobb and Fulton Counties, and all of Douglas County.
Municipalities included are Atlanta, Austell, Chattahoochee Hills, College Park,
Douglasville, East Point, Fairburn, Palmetto, Smyrna, South Fulton, Union City, and Villa Rica.

Notifying the public of and requesting comment on a Proposed Amendment to the 2020 ATL Regional Transit Plan (ARTP)

In compliance with requirements and guidelines outlined in Federal Transit Administration Circular 4702.1B, and its adopted Title VI Program, the Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority (ATL) is requesting public comment on the proposed amendment to the 2020 ATL Regional Transit Plan (ARTP).

The formal public comment period begins on March 1, 2022 and concludes on March 31, 2022.

Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) to Hold Mayoral Caucus Leading Up to Board Election for District 8

Will be held via teleconference on Monday, February 21, 2022

ATLANTA – The Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority will hold a Mayoral Caucus to select the Mayoral Representative for District 8. The Caucus will select a Mayor from amongst their group to represent them in the ATL District 8 board member election, scheduled to occur at the State Capitol on March 16, 2022.  The ATL District 8 Board seat was made vacant with the resignation of former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms from the ATL Board, effective January 28, 2022.

WHAT: Transit District 8 Mayoral Caucus – the mayors of  12 cities within ATL District 8 are scheduled to meet Monday for the first step necessary to select a board member to the Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority. The ATL is responsible for implementing transit projects across 13 metro counties and ensuring plans connect efficiently across jurisdictions. ATLANTA – We are deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Jeff Parker, CEO and General Manager of MARTA. The entire Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority team shares in the loss and grief with his wife, their children, his loved ones and friends, as well as, the Board and employees of MARTA.

Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) to Hold a
Board Planning Session Scheduled for December 20, 2021, at 8:00 a.m.

ATLANTA – The Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) will hold a board planning session for its Board of Directors on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.

Location: Georgia Power Company headquarters, 241 Ralph McGill Blvd, Atlanta GA  30308 in the Arkwright Auditorium on the 1^st Floor.

The purpose of the session is to provide general discussion among the ATL Board members on various matters pertaining to the ATL. There will be no public comment opportunity during the session and no official board action will be taken.

Please note: Per Georgia Power Company security protocols, members of the public attending the meeting will be subject to the following requirements:

• Provide photo ID
• Wear a mask
• Receive an escort to the room by a Georgia Power Representative

The Atlanta-Region Transit Authority Link Announces Electric Vehicle (EV) Partnership & Hosts Exclusive First Look at the Future of Xpress Transit

ATLANTA – On December 15, 2021, the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) will be joined by leadership from the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Power, Heliox and special guests for an exclusive first look at the future of Xpress transit. The ATL was awarded $5.47 million in federal funding for 10 battery-electric commuter coaches and 11 chargers (which includes one maintenance facility charger) for the region’s Xpress Commuter Service. The coaches are expected to initially operate on routes connecting Clayton, Coweta, Fulton, and Henry Counties to Downtown and Midtown Atlanta. Attendees for the event are invited to tour a demo electric coach bus presented by MCI, its manufacturer. It will be the first opportunity to view and learn more about the only federally tested and approved electric commuter coach on the market.

About Xpress Electric Commuter Coaches

Funding for the Xpress Electric Commuter Coaches was received through the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) highly competitive Low-No Program which supports transit agencies in purchasing or leasing low- or no-emission buses and other transit vehicles that use technologies such as battery-electric and fuel-cell power to provide cleaner, more efficient transit service.

The ATL partnered with MCI, the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), and Atkins on the application. MCI manufactures the D45 CRT LE Charge (the only Federally tested/approved electric commuter coach currently on the market). CTE, the Atlanta based nonprofit will provide project management, modeling, performance validation, and technical assistance. Atkins will provide engineering services for infrastructure installation. The D45 CRT LE Charge is a low-floor model bus that allows easier boarding and enhanced ADA accessibility for riders. The EV coaches are significantly quieter than their conventionally powered counterparts, offering a more comfortable and enjoyable rider experience.  Furthermore, Heliox, who provides smart energy management and fast charging solutions and recently established its North American headquarters in Georgia, will provide the charging infrastructure for the project.

In addition to this FTA Low-No award, the ATL has also partnered with Georgia Power through the company’s EV Make Ready Program to upgrade electrical infrastructure at Xpress’s South Ops facility. Infrastructure upgrades supported by the Make Ready Program are expected to support this initial 10 bus deployment while also facilitating future EV bus fleet expansions.

Xpress has 29 routes in 12 metro Atlanta counties that carry more than 1.8 million passenger trips annually to and from major employment centers in Downtown, Midtown, and Perimeter Center.
