Xpress and Gwinnett County Transit Launch Token Transit Mobile Ticketing Program to Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19
Xpress and GCT will offer a 50% discount on the first purchase made through this contactless, cardless, cashless payment solution during January and February

ATLANTA – The Xpress regional commuter transit service and Gwinnett County Transit (GCT) announce their partnership with Token Transit to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Token Transit is a new mobile ticketing program that allows you to ride Xpress and GCT and pay your fare, without touching cash or kiosks. The app is free and is available in both the Apple and Google Play stores. Using Token Transit eliminates the need for hard surface contact at the farebox between operators and passengers. It is a cashless, cardless, and contactless payment solution. Both Xpress and GCT will be offering a 50% discount on the first purchase made through the Token Transit app during the months of January and February.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Token Transit for this cashless fare option,” said Chris Tomlinson, Executive Director of the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority. “With the health and well-being of our Xpress riders and drivers being our top priority, this mobile app will revolutionize how transit is doing its part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of others.”

Gwinnett County Transit will be launching Token Transit on Jan. 4, 2021. This partnership will provide their riders with a new level of convenience that eliminates the need for carrying cash.

Gwinnett County Transit Division Director Karen Winger says, “We’re thrilled to be offering a secure, safer payment option that reduces contact between GCT’s drivers, riders, and surfaces. This pilot couldn’t come at a better time for the metro Atlanta region, especially with the coronavirus pandemic spiking in numbers again.”

To use Token Transit, first you download the Token Transit mobile app. Second, you buy your transit pass. Finally, you use your phone to tap your pass from the Token Transit app and board your bus or coach. The location feature must be enabled on your phone to use Token Transit.

Xpress gives commuters throughout the metro Atlanta region a valuable transportation option and improves the capacity of Georgia’s most congested highways. Xpress has 27 routes in 12 metro Atlanta counties that carry more than 1.8 million passenger trips annually to and from major employment centers in downtown Atlanta, Midtown, and Perimeter Center.

With a population of more than 900,000 and counting, Gwinnett County Transit provides Gwinnett residents and visitors alternative transportation within Gwinnett County, Decatur, and downtown Atlanta. GCT’s seven local routes, five commuter routes, and paratransit service assist in getting people to and from cultural, shopping, educational, and employment centers.
