For Immediate Release:

Xpress and Gwinnett County Transit Launch Token Transit Mobile Ticketing Program to Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19
Xpress and GCT will offer a 50% discount on the first purchase made through this contactless, cardless, cashless payment solution during January and February

ATLANTA – The Xpress regional commuter transit service and Gwinnett County Transit (GCT) announce their partnership with Token Transit to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Token Transit is a new mobile ticketing program that allows you to ride Xpress and GCT and pay your fare, without touching cash or kiosks. The app is free and is available in both the Apple and Google Play stores. Using Token Transit eliminates the need for hard surface contact at the farebox between operators and passengers. It is a cashless, cardless, and contactless payment solution. Both Xpress and GCT will be offering a 50% discount on the first purchase made through the Token Transit app during the months of January and February.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Token Transit for this cashless fare option,” said Chris Tomlinson, Executive Director of the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority. “With the health and well-being of our Xpress riders and drivers being our top priority, this mobile app will revolutionize how transit is doing its part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of others.”

Gwinnett County Transit will be launching Token Transit on Jan. 4, 2021. This partnership will provide their riders with a new level of convenience that eliminates the need for carrying cash.

Gwinnett County Transit Division Director Karen Winger says, “We’re thrilled to be offering a secure, safer payment option that reduces contact between GCT’s drivers, riders, and surfaces. This pilot couldn’t come at a better time for the metro Atlanta region, especially with the coronavirus pandemic spiking in numbers again.”

To use Token Transit, first you download the Token Transit mobile app. Second, you buy your transit pass. Finally, you use your phone to tap your pass from the Token Transit app and board your bus or coach. The location feature must be enabled on your phone to use Token Transit.

Xpress gives commuters throughout the metro Atlanta region a valuable transportation option and improves the capacity of Georgia’s most congested highways. Xpress has 27 routes in 12 metro Atlanta counties that carry more than 1.8 million passenger trips annually to and from major employment centers in downtown Atlanta, Midtown, and Perimeter Center.

With a population of more than 900,000 and counting, Gwinnett County Transit provides Gwinnett residents and visitors alternative transportation within Gwinnett County, Decatur, and downtown Atlanta. GCT’s seven local routes, five commuter routes, and paratransit service assist in getting people to and from cultural, shopping, educational, and employment centers.

About the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority

The Xpress regional commuter transit system is operated by the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL). The ATL is responsible for developing the ATL Regional Transit Plan, as well as identifying and prioritizing the projects and initiatives required to develop region-wide transit. The ATL is also charged with creating a unified regional transit system brand. Effective July 1, 2020, the ATL was legislatively authorized to oversee the state’s Xpress regional commuter transit system and the Atlanta region’s vanpool system. The ATL Seeks Public Input on Regional Transit Plan

The Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority Seeks Public Input on Regional Transit Plan Regional Transit Plan featuring 245 proposed transit projects seeks public comment thru.

October 19th during District Downloads

ATLANTA – The Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority (ATL) is seeking public input on the 2020 ATL

Regional Transit Plan (ARTP) through Monday, October 19th. Updated annually, the ARTP serves as the

foundation for transit planning in the metro-region for the next twenty years, ensuring transit projects work

together to create a seamless transit network and customer experience regardless of transit operator.

This year, the ARTP includes 245 proposed projects designed to expand, maintain, or create new transit

service opportunities across the 13-county ATL region.

Projects included in the ARTP are anticipated to:

  • Increase transit trips in metro Atlanta overall by 39 percent, and to regional employment centers by 31 percent
  • Increase the proportion of low-income households within ó mile of a high capacity transit station to 33 percent
  • Save over 99,000 gallons of gasoline used by metro Atlanta residents, annually
  • Result in a return on investment of over $140 billion, equaling a five dollar return on every dollar spent on transit, if fully funded

“The projects in the 2020 ARTP highlight the governing principles that guide our efforts to bring metro

Atlanta together through a unified transit network”, said Chris Tomlinson, Atlanta-Region Transit Link

Authority Executive Director. “The collective projects within this plan has the potential to deliver on

everything from economic development to innovation to improved air quality. Implementation of the plan

would put 51% of jobs in the region within ó mile of a high capacity transit station, and 11% of projects in

the plan are aimed at upgrading the vehicle fleet to alternative fuels.”

Individuals interested in learning more about the 2020 ARTP are welcome to participate through a series

of virtual public outreach efforts called District Downloads. This year, District Downloads provide several

new ways to participate, including through a new virtual open house experience and series of online

meetings.  Both platforms allow residents to learn, interact, and comment on the plan in a whole new way

while maintaining social distancing best practices. Additionally, for the first time, the public can experience

and comment on the ARTP by mobile phone texting, offering an opportunity for engagement without the

requirement of high-speed internet access.

“We are excited to offer some new and easy ways for the public to weigh in on this plan, using technology

platforms that allow for interaction without direct personal contact, as well as opportunities for residents

without internet access to engage,” said Cain Williamson, Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority Chief

Planning Officer. “The ATL’s District Downloads are a chance for metro Atlanta residents to let us know

how they view the region’s potential transit future.”
