Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority (ATL) Announces Xpress Proposed Service Changes Coming in June 2025 The Community Is Invited to Provide Comments on the Updated System Plan Ahead of Service Changes
The Atlanta-region Transit Link Authority (ATL) announces proposed changes to its Xpress bus service, with implementation anticipated for June 2025. These proposed changes come as part of the authority’s “Redefining the Ride – Xpress 2.0” initiative, which shared preliminary system level recommendations in the summer of 2024 to align service levels with current ridership demands. Since the summer of 2024, the ATL has modified the service proposal based on previous public input and survey feedback. The proposed service modifications are driven by lagging ridership that is largely a result of post-pandemic shifts in commute patterns. The restructuring aims to ensure more efficient use of available funding while maintaining essential transit services for the Atlanta region. The updated system plan, developed through comprehensive data analysis and community input, proposes both modifications to some existing routes and closures of some park-and-ride locations. The updated system plan will be available on the Redefining the Ride – Xpress 2.0 website for viewing and public comment. ATL will actively seek public input on the proposed changes during the 30-day public comment period from January 13 through February 12, 2025. The public can provide feedback through an online comment form posted on the Redefining the Ride – Xpress 2.0 website. The website will also have details about the virtual public meeting planned for 6:30PM January 15th to gather community input. Registration for the meeting will be available on the Xpress website. Additionally, ATL representatives will conduct in-person visits to affected park-and-ride locations in January 2025. Learn More and Share Your Feedback on the Proposed Changes Anyone interested in learning more about the proposed changes, providing comments, or participating in the public meeting can visit Redefining the Ride – Xpress 2.0 (which will be updated January 13, 2025) or contact ATL Xpress at (844)-977-7742.
About the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority The ATL was created by the Georgia General Assembly during the 2018 legislative session to provide coordinated transit planning and funding for the metro Atlanta region. The ATL is responsible for developing the ATL Regional Transit Plan, as well as identifying and prioritizing the projects and initiatives required to develop region-wide transit. The ATL is also charged with creating a unified regional transit system brand. Effective July 1, 2020, the ATL was legislatively authorized to oversee the state’s Xpress regional commuter transit system and the Atlanta region’s vanpool system. The population of metro Atlanta is growing rapidly and projected to add an additional 2.5 million residents by 2040. The ATL is a critical step towards more efficient and effective transit and mobility in the region.
